Benington Lordship Gardens

May Bank Holidays

Early summer is a particularly good time to visit with plenty to see. Early in May the herbaceous borders are starting to fill out with new growth, colour is provided by bulbs and biennials that are allowed to seed freely. Where bulbs have flowered in the spring the grass is left to grow tall creating a contrast between formal and wild areas throughout the garden.

This is also a very busy time in the kitchen garden with lots of vegetable to sow and plant as the soil starts to warm up. At the end of the month the borders often look at their best with fresh new growth and masses of colour.
